Murphy's Law applied to a cake

Everything that could go wrong, went wrong. =) With regards to the cake that I had offered to bake for an auntie at church tomorrow! Hee. Cos it's her birthday mah and also one of the little boy's... then she volunteered to bake a cake. I thought it quite strange to bake a cake for your own birthday, so I offered to bake it. Heh. It's interesting cos I haven't really dealt with chocolate before cos they are so messy. And neither have I baked a huge chocolate cake before! So it was an adventurous endeavour, I would say.

So well, what happened?

Firstly, the chocolate refused to melt. So the impatient me dumped it into the microwave oven, and it turned out burnt! Black, dried chocolate. So byebye to one bar of chocolate. Then as I finally put the cake batter into the oven, and was busy making the glaze, I smelt something burning! Hmm.. but I thought, couldn't be my cake, cos I just put it in for like 10 mins! But my mum came running out of the room... to find my cake BLACK! And the oven emitting lots of smoke! Hahaha! To my horror, I had ROASTED my cake! Hahaha! So effectively, I had one burnt cake! (New recipe: ROASTED CAKE!)Totally BLACK on the top! So we cut off the top layer and continued to BAKE the cake.

But I was paranoid liao... cos my mummy had mixed everything up. And you are not supposed to do that cos then the cake will sink. So I hurriedly made another batter from scratch. *scratch scratch scratch* But by then my head was already spinning... so I forgot the sequence of lots of things, like the sugar, the butter, mixed up the egg white and the egg yolk, the egg white refused to transform, etc. But thank God it turned out well lah, despite all the damage control. And then we forgot to glaze the tin with butter, so of cos the cake stuck! Hahah!! It was comical... but I'm gonna top the second cake on top of the first, then use the choc glaze to cover the ugly cake... so cun see! *grin*

Anyway, here are some pics...

BEFORE: the blacker one is the roasted cake. heh.

AFTER: the joint cake with chocolate glaze...

FINAL: With walnuts topped up for decorations.

Recipe: Always be patient and clear-minded when you are baking. Use a glaze to cover whatever ugly cake you have. Continue to poison others with your experiments and pray they'll still be your friends.
I'm gonna push my luck and add banana slices to the middle of the cake the next time i make this. That is, if those who eat it dun die tmr! Heh!
