Happy teacher
24/7/06
I think I like teaching. I think I’m in the correct profession.
Why? Because….
I look forward to entering classes…
I like entertaining the kids…
I like being entertained… (and I’m easily amused by the kids’ antics and stooped comments)
I like the ‘intellectual’ debate we teachers have while preparing for lessons…
I like the feeling of simplifying complicated issues for students and seeing them see light… (or at least I choose to believe so)
I like it when they thank you at the end of the lesson, even though you didn’t formally end it.
I like chit-chatting with them, be it advising or just plain talk….
I like having the free rein to do what I want in my classes… (including being silly)
I like making friends with the kids and getting to know them better…
I like interesting them in Geography… even if my attempt is somewhat overt at times.
I feel like I’m in JC all over again when I watch them… and a sense of nostalgia overcomes me…
I can see things from their point of view and I empathise with them…
I teach my favourite topics and come out of class feeling a sense of glee, and my heart bounces.
Yep. I love Geography. I love my kids. Oh, and don’t forget the support that the Geog department gives me as well. =) The feeling is just great.
Happy.
