Taiwan Day 1 - Shih Lin Night Market

3/12/06 - Day 1

Yes, I did finally arrive in Taipei. What with the plans of tea-picking, prata, boating down backwaters, tiger reserves, travelling to Ooty in its toy train, etc, in India. Oh well, this was a good alternative.

From "dark" to "light".

Anyway, first stop was Shih Lin Night Market, since Jetstar only arrives in the evening.

There YP went, to satisfy her one-year craving for the famous Shih-lin Ji1 pa2 (chicken cutlet - with bones).

Then we went on to orh-jian (Oyster egg), where the amount of oysters in a serving amazed me. Well, as compared to Singapore's meagre serving... (not that most of you mind cos you all don't eat oysters anyway! Heh.) The chef was quite skillful though... frying up a gigantic pan of oyster egg omelet...

And of course, you need a greedy picture of me to make the chef's efforts worthwhile! =)

Oh, but there's chou4 dou4 fu4 (smelly beancurd) as well... don't leave it out! It's really rather yummy, the stinko beancurd... smells of the rubbish chute. But then again, if it ain't smelly, it isn't yummy! Remember to eat it with the chilli and the pickles! (But really, however much I like the stinko beancurd, I don't think I can tahan the chou4 chou4 guo1 (smelly hotpot, which contains the stinko beancurd). I think that's the ultimate!

Yeah, and to top it all off... there's the mango ice. Mian2 Mian2 ice. The smooth, delicate kind of ice. But I think winter isn't exactly the time for mangoes, therefore the mangoes served were frozen. The kind which you can throw at someone to get the thrill of hearing an "ouch!". *grin*

Yeah, so that was our first pig-out at Taiwan.
Stay tuned for more! =)
